What is quartz? Quartz is a mineral composed of silicon and oxygen. It is one of nature’s hardest materials, rating 7 out of 10 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Mined quartz crystals are com bined with high-quality polyester resins and pigments producing a beautiful stone surface that is built to last a lifetime. How is quartz made? Quartz is a man-made, engineered surface. The slabs con tain approximately 93% quartz and 7% resins, polymers, and pigments. The raw materials are mixed and placed into a large mold to create unique patterns. By compression, a quartz slab is formed. From there, the slab is then dried, heated, and final touches are made to ensure the slab is a perfect choice for your home. Is quartz the right countertop for me? Engineered quartz allows for endless design possibilities. There are limitless combinations of particulate pairings within a quartz countertop. Since this product is man-made, quartz slabs can be created to mimic the look of marble, quartzite, soapstone, concrete, and limestone. Quartz is an incredibly consistent product. Most quartz countertops are more uniform than granite. Variation in quartz, color, shape, shade, pattern, and size are unique traits of quartz countertops. Utilizing quartz as backsplash is a great option to create a seamless and clean kitchen aesthetic. A great way to spice up a plain kitchen is to utilize different quartz colors for the kitchen island and surrounding countertop space.
